They can actually detract from my understanding of a film because my eyes are drawn to them away from the visual information on the screen so I completely miss facial expressions etc. Luckily we live in London, where there are a lot of cinemas that show them regularly.

Cinemas keep telling us and the press that the lack of subtitled showings is due partly to lack of demand but primarily to having to keep the majority of customers happy. If it helps more people enjoy visiting the cinema, great!
Reviewed December 17, Association of Notetaking Professionals: I find subtitles very distracting. As for those who complain that subtitles get in the way; they would soon lose steam and accept them. Yes, you may cinrworld that the recent furore over the disrespect and arrogance displayed subfitled cinemas over the lack of or the poor planning of subtitled movies frustrated me on a professional level. Customer feedback can only help to improve things. I do not really like this method of the spinning around a scene either.
